Dustin Diamond Book – Behind the Bell

Filed under: Dustin Diamond - 23 Apr 2011  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Saved by the Bell was a show that depicted life as a teenager in a fun and light manner. Although it did address serious issues, it did so in a way that was considered family friendly. While the show amassed countless fans thanks to this approach to television, actor Dustin Diamond alleges that life offscreen was much different than onscreen.

Prior to his publicly scandalous behavior, Diamond played Screech the hopeless geek on the show. While Screech was always happy despite what situations he found himself in, Diamond’s book talks about how much the actor behind Screech struggled during this time. As a child actor, Diamond not only faced problems at home, but this role also created a difficult future road for him.

While Diamond has a lot of critics, his book was fairly well received. On Amazon, where you can purchase the hardcover for $19.75, the book has forty-eight reviews with an overall average of three stars. While there are some very harsh reviews of the book, those that aren’t blatantly critical give several reasons why this book is worth reading. One of these reasons is Diamond’s genuine honesty. Another is the fact that it provides some juicy tidbits that anyone will enjoy learning about. While quite a few reviewers felt Diamond spent too much time telling personal stories, this shouldn’t come as a surprise given that this book is autobiographical in nature.

At just under 300 pages, if you’re a fan of Diamond or interested in the life of a child actor, Behind the Bell will be an easy, enjoyable and interesting read.
